Create an equation: ax + b = c
Choose 0–6 x boxes and b, c from −24 to 24. With x boxes, use a whole-number solution from −12 to 12. With 0 boxes, explore a number balance: there is no unique value of x.
Each x box has the same unknown value. It may be positive, zero or negative.

About this balance
A signed-number balance, not a model of real mass. Both sides act at equal distances from the centre. Each side always has three fixed-length perches. Crowded perches arrange units in compact rows so every unit stays inside the cage. Blue birds act downwards (+1); purple birds act upwards (−1).

How to use the controls
Opposite units on the same side automatically pair up and cancel. Tap a unit, then use Remove to remove only that unit. Multiply and divide always apply to BOTH sides. Use whole-number factors −12 to 12, except 0; division must leave whole units and boxes.
